Those that already have the Ultimate Edition on PS4 or Xbox One will be eligible for next-gen upgrades when the digital version releases. However, these next-gen versions won’t allow players of last-gen versions to bring over their save files, meaning those that have previously played the game will have to start from scratch.

The news was confirmed by Thomas Puha, Remedy’s Communications Director, on Twitter yesterday. Puha said that because of the way the next-gen versions of Control Ultimate Edition are built, save transfers just weren’t an option.

Puha also clarified the benchmarks for both performance mode and fidelity mode, saying the former will hit “60fps with 1140p render resolution at 4K,” while fidelity mode will hit “30fps with ray tracing at 1440p render resolution and 4K output.”

A post on 505’s support page confirmed these targets while also providing a bit more color, saying that “only performance mode is available on Xbox Series S … targeting 60fps with no ray tracing, at 900p render resolution, and 1080p output.” Of course, the Ultimate Edition will also support, in some capacity, the PS5’s DualSense technology and help cards.

Presumably, considering these next-gen versions of the game are different from the PS4 and Xbox One versions foundationally, Control Ultimate Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will also have separate trophy and achievement lists as well, though that is not yet confirmed.

Control Ultimate Edition was just confirmed to be part of the PlayStation Plus February lineup, alongside Concrete Genie and Destruction AllStars.
