While Dark Souls 3 is a true sequel to the series, the trailer makes it seem like the gameplay will feel more familiar to Bloodborne players, especially with the thief class it showed off.
The side steps make the game feel more like Bloodborne than ever. The player is seen utilizing quick movements to get in position to execute backstabs.
The bow and arrow seems much more lethal here than in the previous Dark Souls games as well, but at the added cost of consuming MP while firing. Perhaps this is a way to empower the weapon, or it could just be the way the weapon functions. We’ll just have to wait and see.
While this may be a bit of a turn off for fans of the Dark Souls series, the faster approach to combat will be a welcome addition, especially to players who were first introduced to the series via Bloodborne.
While I have played and enjoyed both Bloodborne and the previous installments of Dark Souls, I’ve found myself preferring the faster combat on the former – although I’ve found myself missing the shield from the latter. Dark Souls 3 looks like a win-win scenario to me.
Dark Souls 3 is set to release on the 24th of March, 2016 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
